Hi Christy,
I use Courier email program and I had to give it permision to access the=
 internet.

From; http://www.protectedcomputer.com/settingupafirewall.htm
After you download Zone Alarm, find the file on your hard drive and=
double-click it to start its installation. We recommend accepting the=
default storage location. Click next. Enter your name and email address=
and click next. Read the license agreement (really), then click yes to=
 start the installation.

After installation, you should run Zone Alarm so you can finish the=
installation configuration (depending on which version you are running you=
may be taken to the configuration screen automatically).

In the configuration screen you should go to the Review Alert Settings=
window and click the Alert Me Whenever ZoneAlarm Blacks Traffic button.=
Under this setting, the firewall will let you know whenever an outside=
entity attempts to connect to your computer without your permission or in=
a way that looks like a hacker. You might want to change this setting=
later, but using it in the early days of zone Alarm use will let you see=
 what is really happening.

At the Zone Alarm Secure Programs window, ZoneAlarm offers to automatically=
configure your web browser, e-mail clients and other common programs to=
work with the firewall. We recommend clicking yes to these choices.

Next you will be provided with a Zone Alarm tutorial. This is a good=
general overview of Zone Alarm=92s functionality and is well worth the=
 read.

If you need to make some changes to Zone Alarm later, you can open the Zone=
Alarm window by double clicking its icon in the system tray. You can=
navigate to each section of Zone Alarm by clicking the tabs at the top of=
 the program window.
++ There is more on the web site.
