The first computer I had contact with was nearly the size of a room and had 
the astounding memory of 4k...( yes, I said 4k <bg> ) and 1k memory cost 
over $1000.  It was a Digital PDP12.

I remember working on an IBM 4331 mainframe with those blasted card stacks.
Yes, it was a huge beast, but only by today's standards.  Now, a cheap $500
laptop has hundreds of times more power in it than 'The Beast'.  Best of
all, no punch cards!!!      heh heh
