Lil,
    Yours is a case where the best backup may be as simple as copying the 
contents of your XP32 drive to a separate partition.  Since you're doing a 
replacement install, it would give you the easiest access for reclaiming 
whatever you wish to keep from the previous install.  There will likely be a 
couple of files that balk at the Copy attempt, but it's perfectly safe to 
just work around those as the complaining files will not be needed in your 
next install.  There may be a few things you should retrieve prior to this, 
though.  Exporting certain items from the registry (like your email accounts 
& other account info) are much harder to do once the original install has 
been wiped, even with a Copy of that drive.
