It doesn't STOP the worm, per sa... rather, if the worm is stored in your SYSTEM RESTORE backups, you will now flush your system of prior SYSTEM RESTORE archives. If the worm is in the backups, its not running or active. But, it is there, and the AV app will usually find it on a scan.
