Thank Rick from me for summoning up the energy to take that bear apart.  I 
know he's got more important things to deal with like regaining his 
strength, but it sure does help us move on through the muck.

My reasons for typing all of that out was not just for you (but don't take 
that personally    lol).  I also did it so that anyone following along could 
learn a thing or three about the process.  Once you understand the process, 
partitioning is so much easier than the 'experts' would have you believe. 
They make it sound like surgery so that people will still pay the techs to 
do it for them.  If/when the time comes for you to 'get your hands dirty', 
we'll walk you through it and you'll be an expert in no time.

I'm wondering that myself.  I'll have to gather up and study all of our 
conversations (yours, Roger's and my own) before I can even think of 
connecting.      lol

That shows that both are directly connected to your external and that both 
will get the job done.  As long as the drive disappears from within Windows 
Explorer, it can be turned off &/or removed from the USB port without 
hurting anything.
