Boot from the XP CD...or, you have a recovery CD rather than a plain XP CD, boot from that and then ask to format the entire drive. You should be warned that nothing will be saved. Say yes and XP should install once, cleanly, on a single partition.

If you have other folders/partitions with operating systems on them when you finish, you're not doing a clean install.
