"LP Recorder". Is this a free version you use and if so where can I find
it? I have "Goldwave" trial program, will that do the same thing?

thanks!

I wouldn't use Audacity or any other editing program to get the files onto
the hard drive. I want them in WAV format, so there's no chance of anything
missing due to unknown compression or the program's copying algorithm. To
rip tapes into WAV files, I use a program called "LP Recorder". It works on
any type of external source (tape, album, 8-track, reel to reel, etc.) and
saves whatever it records in WAV format. Once the file is on the drive,
I'll then open up an editing app and import that file into whatever format
works best for editing, as long as it's not a compressed format such as MP3,
WMA, etc.

I do not recall ever having an editing session saved as a .AUP file, so I
have to say that I have never followed the concept of a "Project" within any
editing app. I want to keep all project files in a format that can be
imported into a different editing program (or easily burned to a test CD) if
I so choose and .AUP is most likely a proprietary format that would not be
recognized by anything other than Audacity.

I hope this helps to clear up some of the confusion surrounding how I handle
files throughout the entire process. :O)

Peace,
G
