bouncing of e-mails is a controversial part of mail washer. I've always bounced
mail - but am being more cautious as of the past few days when I was reading in
the forums about it - but!!
over 90% of what you bounce is not going anywhere legit because the address is
most likely forged. So - over 90% of bounces are either being lost in
cyberspace - taking up band width, or being bounced to people's server's and to
people, whose addresses have been used as forgeries.
If a legitmate bounce occurs, this is what it says: (sent myself an e-mail and
bounced it back to me) -

opinions in forums is that even this message is most likely ignored by the
spammers. They have their list they send to - it's all set, computer generated.
They aren't likely going to look at e-mails that are returned to them and take
the time to remove people from their cd's and main address databases - and, if
they are set to acknowledge a response from the spam, this triggers a positive
'hit' rather than a bounced message.

so - this is just food for thought - and you may or may not reduce the spam you
receive from bouncing. when I started to use mail washer years ago, I believe
that it cut my spam down. Now, my spam is growing and I get the same spam to the
same address over and over (sent from different forged addresses) - And the
spammers are using more sophisticated methods of generating their spam - and
harvesting addresses.

Without a doubt, yes...and bouncing e mails DOES have an effect on SOME of
the stuff you get in your mailbox, it certainly doesn't indicate to the
sender that it's found an active account..
