That's what bugs me with HP. They do that with a lot of their products. They
don't make the drivers available for XP since XP has them pre-built-in. But,
sometimes to need to install the driver externally for it to work properly.
Anyways... did you completely uninstall what you have already, and disconnect
the printer? Then, you reconnect and try reinstalling using the XP drivers.

| I can't find the drivers..and the site says the most current driver is ON
| the computer. XP supposedly has current everything but when I checked out
| some of the other installations for other printers in windows all the
| printed text said none of them were current to that printer...I tried other
| ways of getting around that but so far I am stuck. I tried to install the
| old software in the beginning not knowing I couldn't and it stopped me at a
| the point of installing the driver..but I figured other parts of that
| program WERE installed..so I almost think the whole thing needs to be
| deleted and start over off the restore disk. Problem is there is nothing in
| add/remove and when I do search I get so many possibilities that COULD be hp
| files and I don't which are I am up a creek..I would clean the whole thing
| out and start over but I don't know how or where.
| sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

| The typical fix should be to go to the HP site and make sure you get the
| most up-to-date drivers for that printer. Then, completely uninstall the
| drivers you're using now, and then reinstall the new drivers.
| Have you tried it that way?

|| I have an HP printer version Deskjet 882c..it's own software doesn't work
|| with XP..I think it was "95-98" respectively. It worked fine on both those
|| systems. HP installed a much leaner version on SP minus some nice
| features.
|| I didn't have problems until I TRIED to update with the older version--not
|| thinking there would be a problem. Since then the printer isn't
| functioning
|| well without all kinds of errors. I tried removing the version I
| installed.
|| Didn't change anything. IF I am lucky I get one page printed and then the
|| computer goes into error--all the lights starting repeating on and of in
|| succession. THAT will stop and then it produces page after page of jumble
|| until I shut it off, cancel and reboot and sometimes I have to go thru
| THAT
|| 4 or5 times. Gotten very pesty this situation. I don'tknow WHAT to remove
| to
|| totaly delete the whole program to try and start over. There are so many
|| files and I think some unrelated to the printer.
|| I have a restore disk that has the files on it but getting rid of un
|| necessary to get back to normal???ARGHHH..its been too far back to think
|| about useing restore in the computer.AND I can't find the owners manual.
|| GROWL.. I didn't think about the "in house" restore in time. SOOO
|| Any ideas?.. Been shuffling thru this for days...
