A tuner is for getting different channels.  Example: With a tuner built in
you can get all the unscrambled channels from your cable company and without
a tuner you would need a cable box or some other tuner to get the cable
channels.

Hi Bob, thanks for weighing in, I'm sure it is high def, just wondered if 
the 1280 x 720 would be even better quality. Very true on being able to see 
a difference in 720 and 1080 as I looked at them at the store. I did see 
ESPN game in high def and it was like being there. I'm not really sure what 
a built in tuner is for, except maybe adjust the signals for best viewing? I
