I'm glad I am not the only person that is organizationally challenged.  I 
have learned that Windows and Windows apps will do a very reasonable job of 
organizing themselves if you simply use the default installation location.

Simple variation examples:

To install your applications to a different drive change C:/program 
files/AppPublisher/AppName/bin   to   D:/program 
files/AppPublisher/AppName/bin


To organize pictures, music and other "stuff" add various folders to your My 
Documents folders.  Such as My Downloads,  My ClipArt, My Vacation, My 
Journal etc.

Many programs will default to My Documents or a subfolder to keep your data 
files, but watch the install process (always use the "custom" install, but 
only change what MUST be changed) to make sure.

Organizing all of your data (including downloaded software install files) in 
one main folder such as "My Documents" will vastly simplify backup and 
restore operations.
