I have no way of knowing what happened to cause the install to go south.  If 
you have been using Outlook Express for email duties all this time and you 
really didn't have much use for Office's Outlook program, why not uninstall 
ALL Office products and give yourself a clean slate for installing the 2007 
version?  With Office 2000 out of the way, you're much less likely to have 
problems in the future with the newer one.
