Don't do anything because I said so.  Do it because you were already hearing 
the same thing from your own intuition.  There a REALLY good reason why 
"Follow your gut" became a catch phrase so long ago.     lol

But keep in mind that "Security" does not always come with Microsoft's name 
attached.  As one simple example, if Flash has an update, you absolutely 
need to consider it part of your system security to get yours updated.  Just 
don't do it through a pop-up.  The same can be said for Java, ALL multimedia 
players, and pretty much anything else that has even a slight ability to use 
the internet, even if it's just to check for updates.  Keeping up on these 
things in a way where you could trust the results is is the main reasons I 
suggested Secunia PSI not long ago.  Secunia will not normally suggest an 
update for something that's been updated just to make it prettier unless it 
also closes up a known vulnerability.
