You can add another stick of 256, or even a stick of 512.  it is up to you,
as you have the free slot you have no problems on that.

I think XP allows and works with anything up to around 1 or 1.5 gb of
memory!!  So you can add what you wish and can afford.

You operating system will also help to say how much memory you can use

     I have two 128 mg sticks, and an empty slot.  I'm running XP Home, so
how much memory should/could I have?
