I just disabled the firewall and tried to update the software again, and still it says it can't find an active internet connection! Hi Vic, Ok. thanks. This is the camera http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/product.jhtml?reg= <http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/product.jhtml?reg=&cc=us&lc=en&plc=&pagety pe=hpphotosma19577> &cc=us&lc=en&plc=&pagetype=hpphotosma19577 I'm trying to update the firmware / software for the camera: Software updates The Photo Imaging and Photo Printing software can be automatically updated directly from the World Wide Web. The update may be initiated independently by you, at any time, or you may agree to it during installation of the software. The Web Update program will check the HP Web site for a more recent version of software than is currently on the system. If an update is necessary, the files to perform the upgrade are downloaded from the Web site to a temporary location on the receiving system and the patch is started automatically. The program will check the system for any applications that need to be upgraded. The program displays progress messages throughout the upgrade process. The initial installation will include the full product, while the upgrade process will be a patch to the full product. If there is no new firmware, then the process is complete. When a firmware update is available, the files to perform the upgrade will be downloaded from the Web site to a temporary location on the receiving computer system. The screen display will prompt for a connection to the camera. When the PC recognizes the flash card, the firmware will be copied to it. At this point, the firmware is simply on the flash card but not yet active in the camera. Next, the screen display will prompt to activate the firmware in the camera. With the flash card still in the camera, another screen display will show how to turn on the camera, while holding down a particular combination of keys for that particular camera model. When finished, the camera status LCD will advise that the firmware upgrade succeeded. If not successful, the software will prompt with recovery suggestions. Hmmm, I just found this: http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?reg= <http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?reg=&plc=&lc=en&cc=us&prodI d=hpphotosma19577&docName=bpy60354&cat=solve> &plc=&lc=en&cc=us&prodId=hpphotosma19577&docName=bpy60354&cat=solve It seems my firewall might be blocking it. Should I disable it and try again? I hate disabling my firewall. Lisa, Tell me what program you are trying to update - I need exact details such as program name - version etc etc and I'll see what I can find for you. Let me have a shot at this.... I have a feeling I might succeed, then again I just might fail. P.S. Pentium 4 @ 1.3 you probably don't have Hyper Threading. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TTFN - Vic To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ _____ From: pcductape-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pcductape-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lisa Schnepf Sent: Thursday, February 12, 2004 8:50 AM To: pcductape@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [pcductape] Re: digital camera software / RUNTIME ERROR? Hi Vic, Thanks for explaining Hyper threading. I have a Pentium 4 1300 mhz 1.3 ghz. The only way I see able to get this update is by doing it the way they say. I've tried from the website, and it won't let me. This is what happens when I try to update through the software: Lisa
