Is this an option or find your cd. You would not slave the new drive in, it would be your new master at least temporaily, as you would disconnect your harddrive so you didn't corrupt your data. After the install then you would slave your existing drive in as a slave and salvage data, which means you would have to install all your programs in 2000. The version of explorer.exe you show is same as that on my XP Prof. What about iexplore (version) -----Original Message----- From: Carl [mailto:ctm007@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2003 5:31 PM To: pcductape@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [pcductape] Re: Internet Explorer will not open Ok, Let's review my options: 1- find the missing cd; or 2- buy a harddrive and install as slave; 3- install Windows 2000 onto the slave; 4- Use Windows 2000 to recover my data on the small c drive; 5- Use Windows 2000 to install IE6 I guess this week-end I will be very busy. If you only work with the existing harddrive you would have to format it to install 2000 and you do not want to do that you would lose your data. As Trapper indicated you would have to reinstall all the programs, you can copy the data after you reinstall the programs as long as you do it correctly so you don't lose data, you need to move very slowly on executing any action so as not to make it worse or lose your data all together. I don't use quicken...I have quick books pro, but I am thinking you could probably still use your quicken if you re-install it..Is your quicken written for 2000 or XP or both. Usually things are written to move backwards but not forward..that is a newer gadget will also work the older one.. Now that you have a browser go to their website and look to see what they say about it. Because of who it is..I would be reluctant to mess about unless I had it all backed up. My question would be Do I loose all my books if I re-install..or can I import stuff..Can I pick up where I left off..IF no to any of these then for all practicality your back at square one with all your records lost, least until you learn how to recuperate. Have you checked out quick books pro..A much better program and more powerful. The quicken is more for the home owner..the QuickBooks pro is more for the busn. Also Peachtree, Dac easy. As long as you enter your #'s in as you go along at the end of your quota ( time period , Fiscal year ) all you have to do is take the whole thing to your accountant or tax person and be done with it..About as simple as that..they will love ya for it cuz all the work is done for them and its all right there " + " trapper@xxxxxxx Arts of <http://www.streetfairamerica.com/dhar> Alaska by Diane To join a " Christian Study " click below bible-walk-subscribe@xxxxxxxxxx <mailto:a_bible_study-subscribe@xxxxxxxxxx> ----- Original Message ----- From: Carl <mailto:ctm007@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: pcductape@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:pcductape@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2003 3:52 AM Subject: [pcductape] Re: Internet Explorer will not open Hi Trapper, The computers at the office are running Windows 2000 Prof. Which brings up an interesting question. I understand Windows xp is newer than Windows 2000; if I install Windows 2000 over my home xp will I still be able to use stuff installed for Windows xp, like my Quicken program? No, I can not look at any of my folders except when I create a shortcut off the desktop. I use Dirmagic to browse the folders but that is from dos prompt. Can you get into the folder at all?? Is your computer networked to the office? can you log on at work and copy to a cdrom? bring the cdrom home? But about a week ago I did install 2 free programs that I suspect are the problem. One is called "Pop-up Stopper" by Panicware and the other one is Cleanup 3. I am really suspecious of Cleanup because it deletes all newsgroups subscriptions, all cookies, and all temporary files (regardless of location). When I get some rest (I want to start fresh - I just got back from a Lodge meeting), I will uninstall both and clean out the registry to see if that helps. I still don't think I have a virus.
