I see everyone is very careful not to mention names. However, I will provide my experiences which are: 1- My dialup modem is with Sprint, one of the world's worse telephone companies and of course there is lots of notice on the telephone lines and the service is very very bad. 2- My cable modem is with Time Warner Houston Road Runner and the connection is very very fast and the service is outstanding. 3- The cost of cable is $44.95 per month and the cost of DSL with Sprint is $49.95. I am located very far in distance from the routing office for Sprint and was warned by neighbors to be careful of Sprint's DSL service. I have read on the Internet that various phone companies have been required to stop using advertisements that say that cable connections get slower when more and more users get connected because the allegations are untrue; false; lies. I use cable. If it doesn't work properly then have them either fix it or remove it. DSL is fast also depending on how far you are from them. In some cases it is faster then cable. -----Original Message----- From: Jan L. It isn't really new, just new to me. I bought it from a friend who is switching to a Mac for graphics design courses. He was still using Win98, as was I. But it does have the V90 modem. One of the reasons I had the dedicated phone line shut off was the static. I finally realized the money I would save from disconnecting is almost enough to cover my cell phone bill. I have my main line set up to page my cell if any messages are left while I am online. I would like to have broadband but there aren't a lot of options for me where I am. I can get cable, but when I subscribed to cable television, my reception was never as good as it should have been and it was miserable getting them to respond to service calls. The only DSL available where I am is through the same phone company which provides my phone service. Do you know if I would experience the same problems logging on with DSL that I have with the modem? As far as noise in the line obscuring a dial tone?
