[pasmembers] Re: New Event on PAS Calendar for Aug 12, 2015

When we were at Mike's house, we were talking about it being the night of
the 12th, which would make it the morning of, or midnight morning of the
13th.
So, Wednesday night would be best, based on that info.

I'm not saying I'm correct. I'm saying that the calendar at Mike's house,
and the space calendar at my house, both say the peak date is the
12th/morning of 13th. If you see something different, I can move the date
on the calendar.

I'm hoping William can get off Thursday from work, and Amanda, so that we
can attend.

See you there!
Terri

stardate.com/nightsky/meteors says peak is the “night of Aug 12th” and it
includes a note that the Moon rises at dawn.

http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/earthskys-meteor-shower-guide says
the 2015 Perseids will peak on the mornings of Aug 11, 12 and 13th. But
below the paragraph it shows Perseids on Aug 12-13.

http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/meteor-showers-in-2015-12142014/ says
the best Perseids viewing is the morning of Aug 13th (chart), at 60-80 per
hour.

I guess predicting a meteor shower peak is more art than science...

Terri, thanks for setting this up. The link that you have in the PAS
website for this event is something called timeanddate.com. It explains
the best times and dates to view the meteor shower. It first says the
meteor showed peaks on August 11th. At the end it shows viewing for
Thursday Aug 13th through Friday August 14th. Are we sure that the best
night is Wed Aug 12th through Thursday Aug 13th?
Anyone else at PAS who has any info, it will be appreciated. Thanks, Sam

Good morning PAS Members,

A new event has appeared on the PAS Calendar for Aug 12 Perseus Meteor
Shower. It's a PAS Members only event. You can RSVP your attendance here:
http://www.pasaz.org/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1738&day=2015-08-12

It is a Snacking event, not a potluck. BYO food if you wish to eat while
there, otherwise, have dinner before you come, and bring snacks and drinks
to share.

The moon phase will be awesome for viewing, so if you wish to bring a
scope, you can. Everyone can enjoy the viewing of the Meteor Shower.

Set up for scopes is 7-7:30pm.
Dark isn't until 9:30. This is the earliest time to see the Meteors. Of
course, the best time is after Midnight, but some of us can't stay that
late due to work the next day.

Please see more details in the Private calendar listing at the link
above. Hope to see you there!
Terri, Event Manager
