Here are a couple of pics I got from my front yard.

Unfortunately there were clouds blocking everything at our place. I
took a look at some sky maps and depending on whether a heliocentric or

http://www.solarsystemscope.com has a nice helopcentric map. Click on
the map to stop it for today, otherwise it will continue to run the model.
it looks like Venus is almost to its closest point to Earth. You can move
the slider bar manually back and forth to see the planets move in slow
motion. On July 18th there will be another close visual encounter. The
waxing crescent moon’s upper point will go directly over Venus.

Yes. Agreed.

I noticed that Venus moved so Jupiter is at its 3 o’clock. Last night it
was at its 1 o’clock. Given Jupiter’s distance from us, I assume Venus’
movement is the cause of that shift. So Venus must be moving further away
from the Sun, from our perspective, and not yet at its point of greatest
elongation. Also, that Venus is still coming from around the backside of
the Sun, heading toward us, soon to be dropping down between us and the Sun.

Still, it all looks very pretty…

The clouds are so heavy tonight but at approximately 9 PM they split
enough for me to see Venus. Couldn't really see Jupiter either because it
was lost in Venus's glow or else due to clouds that were obscuring its
light.

We had intermittent good views tonight. Showed Miss Terri how to use my

I was able to see jupiter and venus at 8:20 pm tonight in the western
sky. I think that the cloud cover made them look very dim. If it had been
clear, the brightness of the 2 planets would have made the conjuction more
spectacular. Anyone else have good views? Sam
