The attached is rather exciting. The first time a meteor has been seen
falling to earth in the Valley of the Sun and then the meteorite was
actually found. It was near 75th Ave and Deer Valley Road in Glendale near
Peoria. It was seen in the sky July 27th and found on the ground August
14th. I went out to the area and there are a lot of houses, a dry river
bed, a sand and gravel yard, strip malls, roads, schools, and some small
parks and golf courses. The photo of the meteorite shows it is dark
(probably the fusion crust) and the front yards and other areas have mostly
light colored dirt or gravel making the meteorite stand out (see the photo
below). I looked for 3 hours, driving slowly around the area and walking.
No luck for me, it would probably take dozens of people over several days
and even then require a lot of luck since other pieces could be much
smaller, in some backyard, or at the bottom of a pond, or in a bushy area.
