I see they are searching for names of people inside the Capitol Building. One
that will be hard to ignore is BLM activist John Sullivan who was right behind
the woman shot to death. And someone might ask , Doing what exactly?

Actually, I think I was too hasty in assuming a conviction vote would be a
sure thing. I would actually be shocked if two-thirds of the senate could
agree on that. On the other hand, enough Republican senators may see that as
a cheap way to do nothing substantive since Trump was already gone, and then
not vote to bar Trump from future office, for which only a majority vote is
required, and that is a sure thing.

Some further thoughts on impeachment. While the Democrats may appear
deranged, I think they are playing a deep game here with multitple
objectives. First, even though McConnell has said he won't reconvene the
Senate until Jan. 19, presumably not leaving enough time for a trial before
the inauguration, that will not stop the new Democrat majority under Schumer
pursue a trial even after inauguration. Conviction seems like a sure thing at
that point. So, given that Biden has been inaugurated, what's the point?
Well, there are two points. First, a formal removal will presumably render
moot any arguments in any litigation that Trump is actually still the
president, even if he can show voting fraud that would have changed the
result. Second, the new Senate will almost certainly vote to ban Trump from
holding any future federal office, which, again at least arguable, prevent
him from running in 2024.
Finally, the Democrats are desperately hoping that there will be
demonstrations by Trump supporters that can provoke protesters into either
actual or media-invented violence. That will then be used to pass the most
sweeping gun control legislation ever seen at the federal level. There may
be even other nefarious motives, but these will do for now.
