Subject: [pa64] A serious question

I do not understand why we are so obsessed with "remembering" 9/11. Yes, the
deaths were tragic, particularly to the families of the victims, and the first
responders were courageous beyond belief, but the event itself was at least in
part, possibly in great part, a failure of our national security, intelligence
and law enforcement establishments. I recall at the time when American flag
lapel pins became the thing to wear, which struck me as faux patriotism, a form
of what years later would be called virtue signalling. We are still engaged in
that empty exercise.
