Yes, I’m up here doing ok…and actually mom has been doing the cooking for me.
Yesterday was comfort food…tamale casserole and a key lime pie.
So bad for you, but was sooooo good!!

Anyway, I’ve spent the last couple days glued to news 24/7. Yesterday I
conceded that I’m going to be up here for quite awhile…I’m guessing at least a
month.
The great aftermath of Ida, at least in the greater New Orleans area, will be
power.
The main transmission tower into the greater Nola area collapsed. And,
apparently 8 other transmission lines, that should supply redundant avenues of
electricity also failed.
So, the whole area is dark, so, no AC in August, hottest part of the year…no
refrigeration, no store open, and no gasoline.
It’s a situation that could turn into “Mad Max” if not careful….
As I understand it the main highways in and out , especially from the west are
still largely blocked off with trees and debris in the road.
So, will be awhile before I could even physically get in there even if I wanted
to.
Yes, Ida hit at strong Cat 4, a only 7mph away from Cat 5.
Katrina was a Cat 5 at one time over water, but weakened to land as a Cat 3.
Ida was a bit unusual in that it came inland at Cat 4 and stayed Cat 4 for so
long…it stayed a slow moving major hurricane for 12+ hours, something they’ve
never really seen before.
This storm will be studied for years to come.
Anyway, I unloaded my car here, and taking mom to the new Costco they opened
here and going to stock up on some food.
I’ll take my work computer and try to set up over at my dads house not too far
so I can get back to work.
Mom doesn’t have internet here at her place.
I’ll update as I find more out.
OH, one last thing, good news…I had a friend down there late yesterday, drive
by my house, and reported the roof held, no broken windows, back patio just as
messy as I’d left it…haha.
But my place is safe and secure it appears, that’s a relief.

I have been watching that cam and I also watched the cam during Katrina
and Katrine was a lot worse than I am seeing at this time. BUT, keep in
mind what you can see right now, could just be the forward edge and things
