Since we are smack in the middle of the holidays, I thought I’d share a few 
recipes for the wrapped foods, that are also edible gifts, we Mexicans can’t go

Sweet Potato and Black Bean Tamales from "Treasures of the Mexican Table"


My first encounter with this tamal was in Oaxaca city at Criollo restaurant. 
The sweet potato is mixed into the masa moistening it and giving it a beautiful 
orange color, a rich texture, and a little sweetness that contrasts with the 
earthy refried black bean filling.
