Add the bars ASAP. If your only free day is Saturday.
As for the comb that intrudes down into the box, if it does (they may have
been chaining so it looked deeper than it is). - don't be afraid to cut
comb off so it is only one box deep, they will replace it rapidly. Place
cut-off comb on the floor inside the hive and they will recover stores in
it.
The thing to beware when cutting comb though is, it is really soft when
new, and only attached at the top. If you saw it with a knife with no
support you are likely to tear the whole comb off the top bar. Instead, use
something like large scissors and be careful to keep the top bar level as
you cut.

I'd like to add bars to the lower box at the weekend. I'm a bit concerned
that they may already be building comb that reaches into the lower box.
Through the windows, I can see the cluster of bees reaching into the lower
box space. Do you have some top tips?
