Hello Overmountain Brewers,
We will be starting a new venture for us as a club whose purpose is to
promote beer education.
This venture will be for those who want to work on learning how to
calibrate their palates, learn vocabulary when describing beer, or in
general want to know how best to taste the beer they are drinking.
Taste Camp will have the first meeting on *April 24, 2017 *which will be
the last Monday of this month. Since our meetings are always on the 2nd
Monday of the month, this will space things out a bit and hopefully will be
a good time for everyone to meet.
This is the plan:
1. Meet at 6:00 pm and review the current tap list
2. Decide what beers we want to sample and discuss
3. Order a few pints of the same beverage or see if we can do small
samples from the bar
4. Have small samples for attendees, so everyone has the same beer to
taste
5. Smell, examine, taste, then discuss the beer
I plan on eating while there and want everyone to* note *this is *NOT* an
event where we are bringing homebrew. We are ordering beer from Mellow
Mushroom's tab list.
It doesn't matter the level of experience one may have, everyone tastes and
smells things differently. Everyone has different sensitively levels and
have different ways to describe what they see, taste, or smell.
This event will discuss some of the same aspects as covered in the BJCP
style guidelines, but this event is about building your the vocabulary and
calibrating your palate rather than critiquing the beer we are sampling.
This event is open to club members and non-club members alike so if you
know someone interested invite them and spread the word. We want to
promote this and perhaps someone that doesn't know about us will check out
the regular meetings and perhaps join the club.
