There are many who would take my time. I shun them.
There are some who share my time. I am entertained by them.
There are precious few who contribute to my time. I cherish them.

Subject: Important Notice

To the Campus Community:

As of this writing, the City Hall station for the PATCO Hi-SpeedLine is
closed due to police activity. All PATCO train service into and out of
Philadelphia is suspended until the police activity is completed; train
service in New Jersey will continue to run from the Rand Transportation
Center at Broadway and Mickle Street in Camden to Lindenwold, including all
stations in between. Only the City Hall stop is affected. SpeedLine
service in Philadelphia between 8th Street and 16th Streets also continues.

During the duration of this activity, Rutgers University Police will run a
shuttle to the Rand Transportation Center, where students, faculty and
staff may access the SpeedLine for New Jersey stops. The Delaware River
Port Authority advises that PATCO SpeedLine tickets may be used to access
New Jersey Transit buses leaving the Rand Transportation Center and heading
into Philadelphia.

Rutgers will provide shuttle service during this station closure. Pick up
the shuttle
in front of the Law School at 5th and Penn Streets. The shuttle service
will run continuously
until 11PM , today Tuesday October 16, 2001. You also may call the police
department
at 225-6009 to arrange for shuttle service.

The City Hall station was closed late this morning in response to the
discovery of a suspicious substance. Investigators from Camden County,
Camden City, and PATCO currently are assessing the situation. The Rutgers
University Police Department is working in close contact with these and
other agencies, and will share information with the campus as it arises.

Let me take this opportunity to note that there is no evidence that the
activity at the City Hall station is in any way linked to recent acts of
terrorism. Rutgers-Camden police officers and security guards continue to
patrol the campus on foot, on bicycle, and in cars. Rutgers-Camden remains
in close contact with state and federal law enforcement agencies, and
receives up-to-the-minute information that allows the campus to make
immediate decisions in the event such action is warranted.

Certainly, these are difficult times for all of us. We do believe that
Rutgers-Camden is a safe campus, and that we are taking every step to make
sure it remains that way. I encourage all of us to remain aware of our
environments, and to continue to live our everyday lives.

Counseling remains available through the Office of Student Affairs (x6043;
second floor, Armitage Hall) and the health services office (x6005; second
floor, Campus Center/above the bookstore).

If you have any concerns or ideas about campus safety, please contact
Associate Provost for Student Affairs Rory "Cal" Maradonna at (856)
225-6043 or maradonn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We will let you know when the City Hall station reopens.
