I haven't read the original request carefully and have skipped the "buffer" 
part. 
You are right, V$BH is for buffer cache. On  the other hand, I don't  really 
want 
to get into the buffer pool. All I need is BCHR, and,  as it is explained in 
Cary's 
book (the "method C" part of it), it is sufficient and necessary  condition for 
me to 
declare that my database is performing well.
