In the >> create controlfile script, should I have an alter tablespace petemp add >> datafile.... or will I have to create a new temp tablespace? Can the temp >> tablespace be created after the database is opened? is your temp tablespace in a 8i, 9i or 10g database ? If so, you don't need to backup the assorted TEMPFILES (see dba_temp_files) and if you need a restore, you simply do something like : ALTER TABLEPSACE TEMP ADD TEMPFILE 'full path' SIZE xxx REUSE; And new files will be created for you. Old files, that exist, will be reused - assuming no checks are done on the size that is. You can find the command(s) to do this at the end of a ALTER ... BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE; Cheers, Norman.
