"Somebody set up us the bomb."

I have a guess. When you say 10g, you mean 10.2.0.1. As I mentioned here
awhile back, the installer looks hosed and gets all the permissions wrong.

[oracle@stell sqlplus]$ pwd
/db03/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/sqlplus
[oracle@stell sqlplus]$ ls -l
total 20
drwxr-x--- 4 oracle oinstall 4096 Jul 27 08:20 admin
drwxr-x--- 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Jul 27 08:18 bin
drwxr-x--- 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Jul 27 08:20 doc
drwxr-x--- 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Jul 27 08:25 lib
drwxr-x--- 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Jul 27 08:20 mesg

guess they meant all the users needed to be in the install group...ha, ha, ha!
What bunch of jokers...
