We deployed EMC 8830 frame two years ago (we now have two frames, a DMX

RMAN. In fact, EMC's internal data center in Boston was using RMAN but
without BCVs. I am not sure if it is possible today. You may want to ask
the EMC person how they are doing it internally. Since RMAN does not put
database in hot backup mode, I am not sure how you can take a point in
time copy with RMAN. I would be very curious to know what you find.

Thanks

Subject: rman backups using bcv

Anyone tried to do this before
we've got an emc person onsite trying to help us backup using rman a
BCV copy of a database.
one of tyhe questions i have is if anyone is doing this.
How is the process working
are they using symioctl or standard bring the database in and out of hot
backup scripts.
the emc person i have doesnt want to use symioctl to bring the
database in and out of hotbackup and wants us to provide the scripts.

any thoughts/comments
