I've done several of these in the last few months (and will be doing
lots more). The only real gotcha's I've run into so far involved
attempting to upgrade from prior versions (8.1.7 and 9.2.0) to 10.2 at
the same time I'm migrating. Other than that, it's been remarkable
smooth.

The executables are different and will have to be re-installed on the
itanium based servers, but the data files are binary compatible.

I've done both hot-copy clones and cold backup clones from PA-RISC to
Itanium and got both to work (although I'm not sure the former method is
supported)

I didn't have to adjust any init.ora parameters other than the ones
needed for the version migrations.

Subject: pa-risc to itanium migration

Good day all,

I would appreciate hearing of any experiences of Oracle database
migration from HP-UX PA-RISC to HP-UX Itanium, especially relative to
Oracle spincount, cursor sharing, HP-UX config, and any other lurking
gems.

Environment:

Oracle: 9.2.0.7 EE, OLTP avg sustained connects: ~3900

HP PA-RISC: HP9000/800/rp8420, 14 cpus, 48877mb, os: 11.11

HP Itanium: rx 7640, 12 cpus, 49017mb, os: 11.23

SAN: EMC, 1GB interconnects, single NIC

Thanks.
