Dennis, I tried it too with same os and version. Works great! I was told by OWS that the catalog is going away in the near future. I can't speak to 8i, but I've heard from other 8i DBA's that's the primary reason they use the recovery catalog -- it's much easier to do a complete recovery. With 9i, I didn't see the point of setting up yet another database to manage. With controlfile autobackup enabled, you can just follow the detailed instructions in Metalink Note 174623.1 for the recovery. I've done it (9.2.0.4 / AIX5L) and it works great! -- Rich Holland (913) 645-1950 SAP Technical Consultant print unpack("u","92G5S\=\"!A;F]T:&5R(\'!E<FP\@:&%C:V5R\"\@\`\`"); ---------------------------------------------------------------- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe send email to: oracle-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put 'unsubscribe' in the subject line. -- Archives are at //www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/ FAQ is at //www.freelists.org/help/fom-serve/cache/1.html ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe send email to: oracle-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put 'unsubscribe' in the subject line. -- Archives are at //www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/ FAQ is at //www.freelists.org/help/fom-serve/cache/1.html -----------------------------------------------------------------
