Brandon,

we use Nagios for alerting. it is open source and very flexible. we developed our own custom scripts that returns some status/info to nagios and it alerts based on what is returned.

I was just looking at this Ignite tool and it’s not clear from the info on their website – does it also do monitoring and email/pager alerts for things like alert log errors, blocking locks, full tablespaces, etc. or is it just for performance analysis?

Anyone else have recommendations for a good monitoring/alerting tool that does the other things I’ve mentioned? We’re currently using a mix of DB Console, HP OpenView and custom scripts, but it seems like there has to be something better out there – I’m surprised there isn’t an opensource alternative – I take that back, just did a search and found there are a few – anyone have experience and comments on these or any others?
