Have a look on METALINK here;

Doc ID:         Note:77442.1
Subject:        ORA_NLS (ORA_NLS32, ORA_NLS33, ORA_NLS10) Environment Variables
explained.

ORA_NLSxx needs always to be set in the User enviroment on UNIX platforms.
The variable is used to locate the NLS libraries when.
In 7.2.x variable is called ORA_NLS, for 7.3.x is called ORA_NLS32, Oracle 8,
8i and 9 variable is ORA_NLS33 and For Oracle 10g it is ORA_NLS10.

What is the difference between setting NLS_LANG and ORA_NLS33 environment
variable in unix?

We set NLS_LANG to appropriate value before export or import NLS data like
arabic,Japanese,French,etc...

What is the use of ORA_NLS33?
