Thanks Greg, but I have varying values for dbfmbrc even in databases that have
the exact same settings for _db_cache_size, sga_target, processes and sessions
so there must be some other parameter(s) or something else that also affects it
- that's what I'm trying to figure out. This seems like the sort of thing that
one of the gurus would've already figured out and documented, but I've looked
all over and can't find any explanation - I just checked the index of Jonathan
Lewis' Cost-Based Oracle Fundamentals and didn't see it in there either.

I'm not basing my actions on any performance data, just trying to implement
some "best practices" while things are slow. I understand I'll be introducing
plan changes, but the idea is that they're supposed to be changes for the
better. I know all too well that isn't always the case, but I figure it's
worth a shot and if it causes problems, I can just put the system stats back
the way they were before. These databases don't have very high loads or
uptime/performance requirements so I can afford to take the risk.

Thanks,
Brandon

The choice for db_file_multiblock_read_count when not set is dependent
on some other parameters . . .

Do you have some performance data . . .
