Indeed, I think the fog is thinker than you realise :-).  FTP isn't the basis 
for Samba - Andrew Tridgwell and his colleagues reverse engineered the CIFS/SMB 
protocol ... it's all native.  As for "support" disappearing any time soon, 
I'll mention that to Andrew ... he'll get a laugh.
