Be aware that /opt/oracle cannot be used for ORACLE_BASE or ORACLE_HOME on 11.2 if using the Grid Infrastructure because (at least on 64-bit Linux, presume on *nix other platforms too), Oracle 11.2 Grid Infrastructure puts a set-uid binary in /opt/oracle by default. root@dbhost# ls -lR /opt/oracle /opt/oracle: total 4 drwxr-x--- 2 root oinstall 4096 Apr 26 09:14 bin /opt/oracle/bin: total 2172 -rws--x--- 1 root oinstall 2216180 Apr 26 09:14 setasmgid root@dbhost# I don't know if that influenced this change from /opt/oracle to /u01 or not, but it is an important consideration in this thread.
