One more thing I'll add to the previous discussion that I don't think I mentioned before - I have actually witnessed a live transfer of an Oracle database (and its underlying virtual/guest host) from one physical host to another via VMotion (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vmotion_datasheet.pdf) and database connections/sessions were kept intact, so I can confirm it works as advertised - at least in the one case where I tested it.
