Rich, You are correct. Technically you can't install Oracle on other Linux versions that are not currently supported by Oracle. The installer is also going to check memory, CPU speed, swap, tmp and in some cases it check for patches that should be applied before installing. If any or some these conditions are not met the installer may also give you an error an stop. You can set -IGNORESYSPREREQS with the installer or you can copy the install disk to your harddrive and hack the Disk1/install/oraparam.ini file to override the defaults.
