It follows you all your career.
That little login known as SYS.
People use it to and fro,
It makes life just a wondrous bliss.
Yet – somewhere, on your back,
Feel the breath my friend.
Feel it creeping closer,
It’s wretched hands to lend.
One day you log in,
PL/SQL you seek to run.
Alas! No, alter session set current_schema,
so, suddenly, ended your fun.
It’s hands wrapped around you,
Tight as a noose, it has you now.
The PL/SQL doing it’s bidding,
Though all_objects it starts to plow.
Drop this,
delete that!
Automation does,
it’s amazing zap!
Too late you realize,
the horror of your ways.
The database begins to waver,
ORA- errors begin to display.
You feel the cold hands,
of the demon upon you.
Realizing your terrible mistake,
too late, it has sung it’s tune.
You resign yourself to your mistake.
They are is two-fold indeed, you sadly realize.
Wiping out the database using SYS was one.
Not having a backup, was well – not very wise.
And the demon called SYS points,
To a plot on the ground.
On the headstone some words,
In courier new are to be found.
Here lies a broken man.
He was once a DBA
Never use SYS
Backups can save the day

Perhaps it's time to get out of the habit of using SYS. Remember that it has a
special role that is much more powerful than just a DBA. I'd suggest using it
only for operations required instance-wide.
