Paula, Agreed, it is not for scripts (versioning) really, but has the capability (like nay ER tool) of generating SQL "scripts" from the metadata. Also, depends how you define "scripts", or "code", but one could put thier PL/SQL, PROCS, TRIGGERS (code) *in* ER/Studio (for versioning/safety) even though the code was written outside of ER/Studio...it is a repository. Again, I found it to be DB ER tool 1st, CM, VM tool 2nd. hth Chris Marquez Oracle DBA -----Original Message----- From: Paula_Stankus@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:Paula_Stankus@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Sat 7/2/2005 7:03 AM To: Marquez, Chris; oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Versioning software Chris, Yes, I get the impression ER/Studio is a versioning tool for data models, metadata but not necessarily for scripts, DTS and a little cumbersome even for versioning sp's. -----Original Message----- From: Marquez, Chris [mailto:cmarquez@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Saturday, July 02, 2005 12:52 AM To: Stankus, Paula G; oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Versioning software Paula, I (had to) use Embarcadero ER/Studio on my last gig. I learned to like it, but sometimes spent time doing things over...check-in, check-out was little painful and unruly. It was much more a Data Model tool than a versioning tool (IMHO). *When* maintained and entered correctly it would generate some nice complete DDL of the project for the database and save us from manual script maintenance and put the pressure on everyone to put/keep our stuff in the tool or else. Didn't do GRANTS well or at all, but it have once nice feature was a "RUN THIS" option. Anything that it could not generate at least could be included in the model. hth Chris Marquez Oracle DBA -----Original Message----- From: oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx on behalf of Paula_Stankus@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Fri 7/1/2005 9:25 PM To: oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: OT: Versioning software W e are considering Embarcadero, Subversion, VSS and Clear Case for versioning DBA work: triggers sp's functions ddl data models project plans ???? unix scripts windows scripts For multiple RDBMS environments.
