Use of flash recovery area for control files, online redo logs etc

Hi,
I am moving to an 11G environment, having spent far too long on 8i.
What are people out there doing in 10/11G with the flash recovery area, are
you using it to store control files, online redo logs and archive logs?
Oracle docs suggest to me that this is a good idea, but I am not using ASM.
