My memory is a little hazy, but I thought there were two copies of the paper. The initial one talked about implementing uniform extents (128K/4M/128M) on dictionary-managed tablespaces under Oracle 7/8. Then, it was revised for 8i to implement those same uniform extents on LMT's.

I'm not sure what you are asking, so I may not be responding to your
question. I don't recall the "Stop Defragmenting . . ." paper recommended
anything other than LMT. After reading that paper, I was wondering which
variety of LMT to use and I found a page on Oracle's Web site that stated
that Oracle recommended LMT with uniform extents. Probably long disappeared.

Hello,

Can someone tell me when uniform extent sizing became a recommended
practice? The 'Stop defragmenting and Start Living' paper has a copyright
date of 1998, and I remember implementing it on some databases back in
1999, but I was wondering if it there were earlier references to this
approach.
