Completely agree. Where special measures are taken to prevent the normal command to setuid from working, you have to consult with sys admin to get it back in the normal place so the Oracle install works properly. My point was that possibly it was more than just not running root.sh as root. (But probably that's all it was, anyway.) mwf -----Original Message----- From: oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Gogala, Mladen Sent: Tuesday, August 10, 2004 10:01 AM To: 'oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: RE: "SET UID" not set for oracle executable ? Mark, I know all about setuid root programs and security hole that they represent, but oracle executable needs to have setuid to oracle protection. It's an installation requirement, not my invention. -- Mladen Gogala Oracle DBA email:mladeng@xxxxxxxxx Ext: 9787 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe send email to: oracle-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put 'unsubscribe' in the subject line. -- Archives are at //www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/ FAQ is at //www.freelists.org/help/fom-serve/cache/1.html ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe send email to: oracle-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put 'unsubscribe' in the subject line. -- Archives are at //www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/ FAQ is at //www.freelists.org/help/fom-serve/cache/1.html -----------------------------------------------------------------
