Ron, For a quick intro to SS2K from an Oracle perspective, have a browse at http://www.sqlpass.org/news/05June/index.cfm?passnews=SQL_Server. Chris Kempster (previously in this list) once wrote a 'SQL Server 2000 for the Oracle DBA' E-book - that may cover these issues in more detail. SQLServerCentral.com is a great site (once you get over the fact that rebuilding indexes is a recommended, indeed necessary action at this site and *basic* newbie questions are the norm), given the myths and failings of M$ ;-) One of the biggest issue with SQL Server (at least SS2K) is that of transaction consistency and associated issues. I believe SQL Server 2005 takes care of most of that (yet to be seen). The current Linux/Oracle configuration will remain intact for a least a few years. I have been searching for information that will help me learn and understand the SQL Server world as I will pick up the additional databases. The most informative site I have found so far is the SQLServer ebooks site. What sites and references would you recommend I investigate as I increase my database knowledge and responsibilities. With you recommendations I should be able to forecast a reasonable budget for the needed training and materials.
