Good point Neil, you are correct. I've been using GG since before Oracle acquired them, its an old habit.

You only need to disable the recyclebin for Goldengate in Oracle 10G if using DDL replication. From Oracle 11G onwards it's safe to leave it on.

I usually disable the recyclebin, it has always been more annoying than useful. And if you are using Goldengate, the documentation explicitly requires the recyclebin be disabled.
