I'll look through those. I'm doing an evaluation for readiness for
production so I'll probably shy away from OCFS2. If the file opening type is
the only problem folks have had with OCFS, then it's probably back in the
running.
The client has also had great success with Polyserve, but if they can make
10g grids work without Polyserve that is 1) a pretty big savings and 2) a
shorter less complex technology stack.

Still -- has anyone actually USED OCFS for the CRS areas?

I believe that the reason for not locating "regular files" such as you
$ORACLE_BASE and $ORACLE_HOME trees on OCFS stems from the fact that when
the database opens a file on OCFS it uses the o_direct flag. When a file is
opened with o_direct regular file access is not permitted. You might want to
take a look at patches 2883583 and 2913284. These contain o_direct enabled
file utilities like dd, cp, tar etc.
If you're not doing a production implementation, you might want to take a
look at the OCFS2 Beta4, it's available from
http://oss.oracle.com/projects/ocfs2/
The new version offers a lot more flexibility management wise than the
previous version.
You might also want to take a look at Polyserve as an alternative to OCFS.
I've been quite impressed with their CFS.
