RMAN catalogs

We're doing some planning for getting RMAN catalogs into a RMAN
database, small, fast, and compact so it can be exported frequently.

What "real world" solutions work well for backing that catalog up should
the catalog server go down or what ever?

Also, we have a lot of 10.2 and 9.2. Can 10G be used to back EVERYTHING
up, and if there are "restrictions" what might they be?

Just looking for a direction. I've ordered Robert's new book, but it
will probably be a while.

Thanks.
