A tad off-topic in regards to your problem, but it sounds like a major problem back I ran into back when we used to have some Pro*FORTRAN programs called from Oracle. We ran into several bugs with Pro*FORTRAN on version 6 (on HP-UX) and after a couple of months got the fixes for them. Then almost a year later (and an OS upgrade) we upgraded to version 7 (still on HP-UX), and the exact same bugs appeared. After a couple more months Oracle sent us the version 7 fixes, but they were a nightmare to apply. No idea what it's like now days, but at the time, when you upgraded the OS, Oracle needed to recompiled so the newer OS libraries would linked in. Unfortunately, the library locations generally changed as well. Then, add in the newer version of Oracle with it's new libraries and locations, and the make files were useless. After about 4 months of trying to get it all figured out with the correct libraries in which location, I finally decided to switch over to Windoze and rewrote the FORTRAN routines in PL/SQL. So, nothing to do with your problem other than the fact it isn't the first time Oracle fixes a bug in one release but the (new Oracle version) developers somehow don't get those bug fixes and the same bug winds up in the newer version. -- -- Bill Ferguson -- //www.freelists.org/webpage/oracle-l
